simplifying all aspects of St Kitts - Nevis Payroll process
for businesses
Paul Trotman owner and operator of St. Kitts based Trotman’s Accounting Services is a self-Motivated Freelance Accountant and self-taught VBA programmer specializing in Payroll application building and providing payroll processing service. Simply put, He takes care of your payroll needs whether you want to do it yourself or to out-source. The do it yourself application is executed in a windows desktop environment where you are the custodian of your data.
On graduating high school his entire working life, bar the first three months when he did a teaching stint, has been spent in the accounting and auditing field. Nine years as an audit clerk at Pannell Kerr Forster, nine years as the Accountant at St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority, ten years as the Accountant at St Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board with short stints at other business entities including Carib Supply and FND providing primarily accounting services. For the past three years he provided and continues to provide accounting services to mainly micro enterprises, establishing accounting procedures, setting up accounting applications, compiling financial statements and tax reports, and providing payroll processing services.
Paul Completed the foundation stage of ACCA at St Ebbe’s College in Oxford England but did not complete the course due to family commitments.
Accounting is what Paul does. He is very experienced in the use of QuickBooks accounting application, the most widely used accounting application by small businesses. A word of caution. While QuickBooks is very user-friendly, its operation can be frustrating if it is not setup properly at the outset. Throughout his long accounting career, Paul has come across many situations where payroll processing was challenging hence his interest in building a payroll application to fill this void.
Spreadsheets, specifically Microsoft Excel, are popular choices for accounting professionals. VBA is the programming language behind Microsoft excel and advances automation when using Excel. Paul began exploring the use of VBA about thirty years ago first in relation to excel and ultimately Microsoft Access. Countless books and online training courses after his first dabble into programming, he produced the first iteration of Small Business Payroll Application in 2009 which is Microsoft Excel and Access based. The present version is significantly different and much improved, programmatically, from the original application. He remembers his first BASIC programming book acquired from the Sailing Library Ship.
Paul subsequently built Comprehensive Payroll Application to satisfy his desire to give the payroll operator everything they could imagine in a payroll application and constantly improving it as ideas come into focus. This application is Microsoft Access based.
The payroll applications are built specifically for St. Kitts – Nevis with the local regulations in mind. Tweaking general built payroll applications to suit our system sometimes prove problematic which is not the case with his applications.
Both payroll applications and an accompanying Access-based backup, compress and restore utility, along with a payroll processing service for those who prefer to out-source are made available to the St Kitts-Nevis business community via this website. All services and software offered on this site are accompanied by detailed documentation.
Throughout his lifetime Paul has acquired a vast amount of experience in the accounting and programming fields. His ambition is to pass on the expertise that he has acquired to others who are pursuing the same goals he had umpteen years ago. Running some Excel and QuickBooks classes is foremost in his mind. Secondly, and in the not too distant future, Paul's vision is to see his Comprehensive Payroll Application used Caribbean-wide, by partnering with enthusiasts in the different jurisdictions and creating versions that comply with their regulations.
From a social standpoint, Paul has a wife three children, a son and daughter in law and five grandchildren including his everything, Lyon. Paul was president and Captain of Black Burns Youth and Sports club from the Mc Knight / Greenlands community. Paul was also a soccer fanatic, played for, captained and coached St Kitts National team at different times over a period of about fifteen years. Paul was a member of the Board of Governors at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. Tennis has become Paul’s sport of choice in his latter years. Several regional and local championship trophies are evidence of dedication to what he does.
